the mist
A young man, Dipus, returns to his isolated village in Appalachia in the late 1960s after a 12 year absence and meets a young attractive ethnologist visiting there. However a deep, intricate, peculiar and even shameful web of relationships between various people in this small community develop, causing major tension involving a deep-seated passion Dipus has for a woman who took care of him while growing up, a passion which is “forbidden”, not only because she is marrying a man with whom he has strong ties with, but more importantly because she is Dipus’ half sister. The story itself is both subtle and multifaceted, slowly revealing a mosaic of themes such as passion (or sibling rivalry), betrayal, the Oedipus complex, homosexuality, denial of one's origins and witchcraft.
